Review: Now You See Me 2

Review: Now You See Me 2

Three years ago, I went to see Now You See Me in the cinema, and I was blown away. I loved this movie, I loved all the magic tricks and I especially loved the plot twist at the end. So when I heard there was going to be a sequel, I immediately told myself I would be seeing that in the cinema as well. Now You See Me 2 continues the story of The Four Horsemen who now live in hiding after their escape from the FBI at the end of the previous movie. They are desperate to get back onto the stage and perform once again, but as soon as they do that – they find out they have an enemy out there, someone who is very keen on ruining their lives.

Let me tell you first of all I loved this movie almost as much as I loved the previous one! It was just so great, and I loved all the tricks that the Horsemen did and I wish I could do cool tricks like that! I did find this one a little bit more predictable, to be honest, but it was still very enjoyable!

We have much of the previous cast in this movie as well, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman – as well as the three male Horsemen. The only change in cast was that Henley (Isla Fisher) was replaced with Lula (Lizzy Caplan) due to Isla’s pregnancy. I honestly really enjoyed Lula and I have to admit I didn’t miss Henley at all. And there was another great addition to the cast – Daniel Radcliffe! I love him so much, and he’s such a great person that I really enjoyed his character
even though he was the antagonist and a total dick in this movie
Just like in the previous movie, this movie was full of magic tricks and the behind the scenes on those tricks, and that is honestly what I live for. I love magic tricks, but I’m always the person that wants (needs) to find out how they were done. But my favourite scene in this movie wasn’t really a trick at all – the card-throwing part (trust me, when you’ve seen the movie, you know which scene I mean) that was just AMAZING.

Like I said, this movie was a little more predictable than the previous one. Or maybe I have finally realised I need to see the big picture and need to stop looking closer. (As they have been trying to teach us since the previous movie).
The last scene, where they were thrown off the plane, I already knew that they weren’t really flying, so that was a bit of an anti-climax. I had kind of expected that Dylan’s father would show up, alive and well, but alas that didn’t happen. Then again, that would perhaps have been a bit too much.
In the end, I loved this movie so much, and I will definitely be seeing it again. And I definitely recommend it to people who love magic and magic tricks! And a third movie has already been confirmed for 2017 (or 2018 the date isn’t certain yet)!
