In 2011, I started a blog. Everyone around me was making blogs to blog about so many different things, and I wanted one as well. After thinking about a name and making various different blogs with various different usernames, I decided to pick one from a song I loved from my favourite band at the time (Only Seven Left). Thus – October Tune was born.
I blogged about all kinds of things at the time, I can’t even remember what exactly, but at some point when I discovered Goodreads and rediscovered my love for reading, OT turned into a book blog. I spent the next couple of years reading books, writing reviews, posting hauls and wrap-ups and overall doing bookish things on my blog. I loved doing it, loved sharing my opinion of books I enjoyed and books I hated.
But over the years, I realised that the one thing I didn’t really enjoy about having a book blog, was writing reviews. And in my opinion, reviews are one of the biggest elements of a book blog. I think that I decided to stop writing reviews in either 2018 or 2019 and I felt a lot better about it. I could pick up books more often (no more waiting to start a new book because I hadn’t written a review for the previous one yet) and I overall enjoyed my reading way more.
I decided to go back to what my blog originally was, where I talked more about everything but somewhere along the way I lost my blogging mojo. I barely posted anything and the things I did post were mediocre (in my opinion). Meanwhile, I was still paying for my domain and the hosting, even though I barely used the website anymore.
It’s 2021 now, and we’ve had two absolutely abysmal years. Two years where I spent most of my time at home, reading. I debated many times on whether I wanted to continue blogging, or whether I wanted to just cancel my hosting completely. It kind of hurts to say, but after ten years, I think it’s time…
On 19 April 2022, October Tune will cease to exist.
Yes, I am blogging now, on a free blog on WordPress.com and I will probably continue to do so (if I’m in the mood for it, of course). I’ve now redirected the OT URL to bring you here, and this is where it’ll keep taking you until the URL stops working in April.
I’d like to introduce you to An Ace Reader, created by someone who loves reading and is also asexual. I hope you enjoy your stay, and I hope you join me on 19 April 2022 to say goodbye to this URL that has served me well!
